Our Leadership

Joe Balskus

Joe is the Vice President and Director of Leadership Foundry. For over 36 years, Joe has been at the forefront of civilian and military organizations as a change architect and strategist for multi-functional teams. After achieving his second Masters Degree at the age of 21, he entered the US Air Force Officer Training School and graduated Distinguished Graduate upon his commissioning.  For the next 8 years he was on Active Duty before transferring to the Air National Guard, culminating with his assignment as a Professor of Aerospace Studies at The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. He built one of North Florida’s largest nursing staff relief and home care companies from scratch and through innovative ground-breaking approaches to recruiting and retaining staff, captured over 43% of market share. As he built his nursing business, he also advanced in positions within the Florida Air National Guard. Joe sold his company to a large national chain and was selected for a full-time position as the Executive Support Staff Officer/Director of Staff at Headquarters, Florida ANG. Within 5 years, he was selected for key executive positions and in 2001 became the Chief of Staff and nominated to the US Senate for his first star. He was confirmed by the U.S Senate to the rank of Brigadier General in 2002 and for over seven years served as the commander of the Florida Air National Guard and the Assistant Adjutant General for Air.  After serving as the Vice-Chair (2008-2010) and National Chairman of the Air National Guard Strategic Planning System (2010- 2012), he was nominated and confirmed by the Senate for his second star and assigned as the Military Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Strategic Plans and Requirements at the Pentagon. He became the Air Force architect for the establishment of the Total Force Task Force and testified before Congress during the 2014 National Commission on the Structure of the Air Force.

Joe is the recipient of numerous awards and decorations to include inclusion in the  Eastern Illinois University Outstanding Alumnus group, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal and two awards of the Florida Cross. He has extensive senior executive education to include Harvard JFK School of Government and Syracuse University Defense Studies. He has been married to the former Lisa Brooker for the past 35 years and they have a son, 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren.

Our Facilitation Team

Barry Berglund

Barry has an international reputation in the field of leadership development as a program designer, executive facilitator, and coach.  Barry served over 20 years in the U.S. Army, including assignments as a personnel staff officer in the Pentagon.  His military decorations include the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal. Subsequent to his retirement, Barry joined the Center for Creative Leadership in 1988, and served in multiple positions, including Directorships of both CCL’s European and San Diego Branches.   Barry also served a key role in developing key relationships with the US Military including programs offered for top military leadership.  He was designated a CCL Honorary Senior Fellow in 2007.

Over the past 30 years, Barry’s leadership work has included relationships with such diverse organizations as:  General Motors, Whirlpool, Mars, Gambro AB (Sweden), Orkla ASA (Norway), Yale University, all of the US Armed Services, the Congressional Management Foundation, Kohler, Qualcomm, Motorola, Methanex (Canada), Leap Wireless, and the Defense Contract Management Agency.  He also delivered the Robert T. Stevens Leadership Program for the five US Service Academies at West Point for 19 years.

Barry was the principle designer of the original suite of Leadership Challenge Programs, and maintains an active role as both advisor and faculty member.

Dan Quinn

Dan is an Executive Leadership Development Consultant and Coach for the Leadership Foundry. Dan served over 25 years in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant having taught at several professional development schools and having led numerous national leadership and diversity initiatives. He has over 20 years of leadership and coaching experience in government, corporate, educational and nonprofit sectors facilitating hundreds of training and coaching initiatives for leaders and teams at every level of the organization.

Brian Hogg

Brian is a Leadership Development Consultant for the Leadership Foundry. Brian has been at the forefront of luxury hospitality and service delivery with over 20 years of on-the-job and classroom based instruction. He has held several operations management positions requiring him to lead large, diverse workforces and overseeing the strategic and financial effectiveness of his departments. These roles provided the basis for a transition into Human Resources, where Brian quickly became highly regarded for new property openings, transitions & acquisitions, and labor relations. A hallmark of his hotel tenure has been his ability to work across all segments of society to motivate and achieve common goals for the business and career mobility for the employees.

Chris Muncy

Chris is a Leadership Development Consultant for the Leadership Foundry. For over 35 years, Chris served in the Air National Guard/US Air Force.  In 2012, Chris retired as the tenth Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Air National Guard, Pentagon, Washington, DC.  Chris was responsible for the interest and proper utilization of 94,000 personnel, he advised the leader of a $9B annual organization.  His career has taken him to every state in the union and over 30 countries.  In 2001-2002, he served with US Air Force in Europe for management of command, control and communications assets for Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), and in 2003 in the Combined Air Operations Center, Saudi Arabia for the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Chris continues to be a keynote or motivational speaker to thousands worldwide.  From dinners to conventions to the halls of Congress as well as in all media platforms, Chris has inspired the masses.

Gary “Doc” Murdock

Doc is a Leadership Development Consultant for the Leadership Foundry.  Doc began his pursuit of delivering top-notch adult education after retiring from the Air Force in 2006 having served for more than 27 years as a human resource manager where he held a number of key leadership roles to include Deputy Director of Human Resources for two large military organizations with 10,000+ employees, including NATO and multi-service military organizations.  Additionally, he served as senior enlisted manager for the Air Force Senior Leader Management Office, an 80-strong team responsible for managing leadership and development training and assignments for more than 8,600 Air Force senior leaders and Career Field Manager for a high-visibility enlisted special duty, where he was in charge of curriculum design, delivery, and certification for hundreds of personnel.

Betsy Strines

Edye Washington , LPC/NCC

Edye is a Leadership Development Consultant for the Leadership Foundry. Edye is a National Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has worked with individuals and groups and serves as a motivating force to assist them in positive growth and achievement of their goals. Prior to joining The Leadership Foundry, Edye was in law enforcement for over 20 years. Edye has facilitated in-service training for Law Enforcement agencies and non-profit organizations including topics about leadership challenges and engagement, diversity and inclusion, generational cohorts, racial profiling and unbiased policing.

Bill Wofford

Bill is a Leadership Development Consultant for the Leadership Foundry. Bill has been actively involved in junior and senior leader development throughout his 43-year military career, and is utilizing that skillset and expertise in the classroom now as a Facilitator with the Leadership Foundry where he is responsible for conducting professional development and personal awareness seminars.  Prior to his retirement in 2015, he served as the Adjutant General of the Arkansas National Guard, where he was responsible for the command of almost 10,000 Soldiers and Airman in the Arkansas Army and Air National Guard.

Vicki Schopfer

Vicki Schopfer is a Curriculum Design Manager for the Leadership Foundry.  She has worked in the leadership development field for over 15 years.  She specializes in instructional design by creating, developing and modifying curriculum and other training materials to support instructor led training for all of Leadership Foundry’s training and development initiatives.  She has worked in both operational and managerial capacities in the hospitality industry.

Monica Mancuso

Monica is a Program Manager for the Leadership Foundry. She provides administrative, client, and instructional support and has planned over 250 programs in this capacity. She has worked in the leadership development field for over 22 years.  Prior to joining the Leadership Foundry, Monica was with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), where she focused on client services and program operations.  She specialized in working with CCL’s Military and Government accounts and was responsible for the planning, directing and assisting in the design and delivery of custom program initiatives.

Angela Shank

Jessie Stallings

Jessie Stallings is a program manager with Leadership Foundry and has worked in the customer service industry throughout her professional career. In her current position, she provides administrative and client support for Leadership Foundry’s training programs.
